Course Aims
To provide sufficient understanding of the basic components and practices of railway engineering for the planning of the safe engineering access and safe systems of work on or about Network Rail infrastructure.
To provide delegates with the skills to understand and perform the planning of routine safe systems of work on the railway.
To enable successful delegates to proceed to the Part 2 Core Planner Skills course.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course the delegates will have: -
Assessment
Theory assessment exam for Stage 1 competence
Mentorship period
Candidates can undertake routine planning unsupervised on completion of Stage 1 but would require support and guidance from an “experienced planner” to perform more complex plans.
Candidates should be provided with opportunities to gain experience in applying the skills for a minimum period of 4 weeks before progression to Stage 2
Course Duration
Two days.
Pre-requisites
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and should have good communication skills.
Personal Protective Equipment
This course is classroom based and therefore no PPE is required.
Certification
Stage 1 competence is valid for 12 month only during which time candidates must progress and achieve Stage 2.
A Network Rail Sentinel card, will be awarded to each successful candidate.
