RECOGNITION OF RAIL FLAWS

COURSE AIMS

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the relevant knowledge in the types of rail defects and how they should be dealt with.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course the delegates will: -

• Be able to identify the different types of visible rail defects
• Be aware of the relevant Railway Group Standards and Network Rail Company Standards relating to RCF (Rolling Contact Fatigue)
• Be able to identify and clarify RFC
• Be aware of the types of Non Destructive Tests (NDT) used to identify defects in the rail

COURSE DURATION

One half day.

PRE-REQUISITES

There are no particular educational or competence pre-requisites for the course. However, the following factors will be of benefit to the delegate: -

• Prior experience of working on the Permanent Way
• A clear understanding of the track construction and its reaction under dynamic load.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Not required.


CERTIFICATION

A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to the delegate on completion of the course.
