PERMANENT WAY APPRECIATION – JUNIOR STAFF

COURSE AIMS

This course is intended to provide a delegate with an introduction to the Permanent Way and Signalling Infrastructure.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course the delegates will: -

• Have a basic understanding of track construction
• Have a basic understanding of the renewal and maintenance of Plain Line and Switch & Crossings
• Have an introduction to Network Rail company standards
• Have an appreciation of Track Geometry
• Have an appreciation of the Basic Principles of Track Signalling and Circuitry and its interface with the Permanent Way
• Demonstrate the ability to identify and correctly use Hand Tools in the Maintenance of Track and Formation, including jacks for the adjustments of top and line
• Be aware of the requirements of off-track work

COURSE DURATION

Two days.

PRE-REQUISITES

There are no educational or competence pre-requisites for the course.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -

• Valid P. T. S. Certificate
• Protective Clothing – high visibility
• Safety Footwear

The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.

CERTIFICATION

A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to the delegate on completion of the course.
