TRACK RENEWALS

COURSE AIMS

This course is intended to provide the delegate with an in-depth knowledge and skills required to plan, supervise and implement permanent way track renewals.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course the delegates will: -

• Be aware of the need for site safety.
• Have a clear understanding of the method statement process.
• Have an understanding of the requirements of site planning.
• Be aware of the Railway Group Standards and Network Rail Company Standards and specifications relevant to track renewals.
• Have an understanding of the role of the Renewals Supervisory Manager.
• Have a clear understanding of the requirements for planning and organising resources, including labour, plant and materials.
• Have a clear understanding for the need of planning and implementation of possessions and isolations.
• Be able to estimate and order all relevant materials.
• Be able to prepare and employ bar charts.
• Have an understanding of the relevant “follow-up” work subsequent to track renewals.
• Have an in-depth knowledge of track construction, both plain line and S&C.
• Be aware of the interface between S&C and track signalling.

COURSE DURATION

Eight days, consisting of two modules of four days, Monday - Thursday.

PRE-REQUISITES

There are no particular educational or competence pre-requisites for the course. However, the following factors will benefit the delegate: -

• Prior supervisory or technical experience in working on the renewal of the Permanent Way.
• Good numeric skills.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she must be in possession of: -

• Valid P. T. S. Certification
• Protective High Visibility Clothing
• Safety Footwear

The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.


CERTIFICATION

The delegate will be required to complete an examination to demonstrate his/her underpinning knowledge of the requirements of track renewals.
