TRACK RENEWALS
COURSE AIMS
This course is intended to provide the delegate with
an in-depth knowledge and skills required to plan, supervise and implement
permanent way track renewals.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course the delegates will: -
Be aware of the need for site safety.
Have a clear understanding of the method statement process.
Have an understanding of the requirements of site planning.
Be aware of the Railway Group Standards and Network Rail Company
Standards and specifications relevant to track renewals.
Have an understanding of the role of the Renewals Supervisory Manager.
Have a clear understanding of the requirements for planning and
organising resources, including labour, plant and materials.
Have a clear understanding for the need of planning and implementation
of possessions and isolations.
Be able to estimate and order all relevant materials.
Be able to prepare and employ bar charts.
Have an understanding of the relevant follow-up work
subsequent to track renewals.
Have an in-depth knowledge of track construction, both plain line
and S&C.
Be aware of the interface between S&C and track signalling.
COURSE DURATION
Eight days, consisting of two modules of four days, Monday
- Thursday.
PRE-REQUISITES
There are no particular educational or competence pre-requisites
for the course. However, the following factors will benefit the delegate:

Prior supervisory or technical experience in working
on the renewal of the Permanent Way.
Good numeric skills.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the
running line, therefore, he/she must be in possession of: -
Valid P. T. S. Certification
Protective High Visibility Clothing
Safety Footwear
The protective equipment must comply with current safety
standards.
CERTIFICATION
The delegate will be required to complete an examination
to demonstrate his/her underpinning knowledge of the requirements of track
renewals.
