A.O.D. LEVEL CROSSING ATTENDANT

COURSE AIMS

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to successfully interpret the relevant parts of the Rule Book GE/RT 8000 Module TW8, and all relevant Local Instructions when required to operate level crossings by local control.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course the delegates will: -


• Understand the different types of level crossings and their operation.

• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the level crossing attendant (LXA) and the signaller.

• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the action taken by the LXA when arriving on site

• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the LXA once local control has been taken

• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the equipment that is required for local control

• Be able to understand and use the phonetic alphabet

• Be able to understand the requirements for level crossing operation during a T3 possession

• Be able to understand the requirements for level crossing operation during Single Line Working

• Be able to understand the requirements for level crossing operation when attending a failure of the crossing

• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the LXA when handing back the crossing to the signaller for normal operation

COURSE DURATION

One Day, including the assessment process.

PRE-REQUISITES

Delegates must be in possession of a valid D&A certificate and a valid Sentinel card endorsed for IWA/COSS.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -
• Safety Footwear
• Protective High Visibility Clothing
• Hard Hat


CERTIFICATION

Network Rail Sentinel Track Safety card, (endorsed with AOD LXA competence) valid for 2 years, will be awarded to each successful candidate.
