INDIVIDUAL WORKING ALONE (IWA)

COURSE AIMS

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding to carry out the duties of an Individual Working Alone when deemed suitable by their Local Manager.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibility of an IWA
• Be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of working within:

- Red Zone
- Green Zone
- Unfenced Green Zone

• Have a complete understanding of and be able to use:

- Hazard Directories
- Sectional Appendices
- Sections T1 & T2, Rule Book
- Method Statements

• Be able to demonstrate setting up a Safe System of Work
• Be able to demonstrate the implementation of an Emergency Procedure resulting from an incident affecting the safety of the line and trains

COURSE DURATION

Two days.

PRE-REQUISITES

Delegates MUST be in possession of:
• Valid P.T.S. Certificate
• Valid Drug & Alcohol Certificate (copy will be accepted providing it is signed by sponsor)
• Personal Track Safety Handbook or Rule Book

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -
• Valid P. T. S. Certificate
• Protective Clothing – high visibility
• Safety Footwear
• Hard Hat
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.

CERTIFICATION

On successful completion of written and practical assessments the Delegate’s Network Rail Sentinal Card will be registered for Individual Working Alone (IWA) for a period of TWO YEARS
