PERSONAL TRACK SAFETY

COURSE AIMS

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to successfully interpret the relevant parts of the Network Rail Personal track Safety Handbook, RT 3170, and all relevant Local Instructions when required to go on or the near line.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course the delegates will: -
• Have the ability to understand the railway environment and basic track terminology.
• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of all relevant safety procedures
• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of all safe procedures, including personal safety when on or near the line.
• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the positions of safety
• Be aware of the relevant personal safety equipment
• Be able to demonstrate the ability to make an emergency call
•Be able to demonstrate the ability to implement the emergency procedure resulting from an emergency affecting the safety of line and trains
• Be able to demonstrate the ability to understand and use the phonetic alphabet
• Be able to demonstrate to correctly acknowledge the warning given by train drivers and lookouts
• Be able to demonstrate the correct procedure for crossing the running line
•Be able to identify the line parts of both ‘overhead line’ and DC electrified equipment
• Have a clear understanding of minimum safe working distances from O. H. L. E.
•Have a clear understanding of operations requiring special care when working adjacent to both O. H. L. E. and DC Electrified Line.
• Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the correct procedure for crossing the live parts of the DC Electrified Line.


COURSE DURATION

Two Days, including the assessment process.

PRE-REQUISITES

Delegates MUST be in possession of a valid Medical and Drug & Alcohol Certificates in accordance with Network Rail Group Standard.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -
• Safety Footwear
• Hard Hat
•High visibility clothing


CERTIFICATION

Network Rail Sentinel Track Safety card, (endorsed with P. T. S. competence) valid for 2 years, will be awarded to each successful candidate. Temporary certificates can be supplied if requested by the candidate’s sponsor.
