Course Aims

This course is intended to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the dangers of confined spaces and to enable delegates to safely enter, work in and leave confined spaces using escape and full working breathing apparatus and associated safety equipment.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will: -

  • Be aware of current applicable legislation including a working knowledge of the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997
  • Have a clear understanding of the hazards relating to working in confined spaces
  • Be able to carry out risk assessments for working in confined spaces
  • Have a clear understanding of the operation and use of gas detection equipment
  • Be able to use escape breathing apparatus, self-contained breathing apparatus and other associated equipment
  • Have a clear understanding of the safe working procedures and evacuation procedures relating to confined spaces
  • Be aware emergency procedures and basic rescue techniques
  • Be aware of  relevant hygiene procedures
  • Course Duration

    Two days.

    Pre-requisites

    There are no particular educational or competence pre-requisites for the course. However, the following factors are essential: -

  • Delegates must be physically fit and not suffer from claustrophobia
  • Delegates will need to be clean shaven for the practical exercises (in order to use breathing apparatus).  Please advise upon booking if any delegates are not suitable to wear face masks.
  • Personal Protective Equipment

    The practical element simulates working conditions therefore, delegates MUST be in possession of:-

  • Hard hat
  • Protective Clothing
  • Safety Footwear
  • The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.

    Certification

    A Certificate of Training will be awarded to the delegate on completion of the course.
