<p>This course is intended to provide a delegate with an appreciation of the technical, commercial, operational and legislative issues which need to be taken into account when planning, managing and undertaking any construction or maintenance work within the railway environment.</p>

<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>At the end of the course the delegates will: -</p>
<li>Have a clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of Network Rail and its legal and commercial relationships with the infrastructure contractors and maintainers, train operating companies and train leasing companies</li>
<li>Have an understanding of the relationship between Network Rail’s mandatory requirements and Government Legislation (HASWA, CDM Regs.)</li>
<li>Have a clear understanding of the effects that construction and maintenance work has on railway operations</li>
<li>Be aware of the potential hazards when construction and maintenance work is undertaken on or adjacent to the railway</li>
<li>Understand the basic principles and the purpose of the railway signalling system</li>
<li>Have basic comprehension of permanent way construction and maintenance</li>
<li>Be aware of the types of motive power and traction in use on the railway system</li>
<li>Be aware of the arrangements required for dealing with emergencies, train failures and disruption to the infrastructure</li>
<li>Appreciate the importance of the relationship and co-ordination between the different rail functions</li>

<p>Two days</p>

<h3>Pre-Requisites</h3>
<p>Delegates attending the course should be Managerial, Professional, Technical or Supervisory grades who have little or no knowledge of the railway system.</p>

<h3>Personal Protective Equipment</h3>
<p>Personal Protective Equipment is not required on this course.</p>

<h3>Certification</h3>
<p>A Certificate of Training will be awarded to the delegate on completion of the course.</p>
