<p>This course is intended to provide a delegate with the underpinning knowledge and skills to achieve a suitable level as required by the Network Rail Company Standards.</p>

<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>At the end of this course the delegates will: -</p>
<li>Be able to demonstrate an awareness of the frequencies of Inspections relating to Line Speeds.</li>
<li>Understand the needs of Visual Observations in respect of the Inspection Procedures.</li>
<li>Be able to identify the five Derailment Hazards.</li>
<li>Recognise the tell tale signs of Derailment Risk.</li>
<li>Be able to apply the relevant gauges and interpret the readings.</li>
<li>Have an awareness of the effect of track conditions in relation to Derailment Hazards at Switches.</li>
<li>Have a clear understanding of the profile inspection process following the grinding repair of the switch blade</li>

<h3>Course Duration</h3>
<p>Two days, inclusive of on-site practical assessment.</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Pre-requisites</h3>
<p>There are no particular educational or competence pre-requisites for the course. However, the following factors will benefit the delegates: -</p>
<li>Prior basic knowledge of the permanent way track and its components</li>
<li>Prior experience of working on the maintenance/renewal of S&amp;C</li>
<p class="body">
<h3>Personal Protective Equipment</h3>
<p>This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -</p>
<li>Valid P. T. S. Card</li>
<li>Protective &#8220;all orange&#8221; High Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471:2003</li>
<li>Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004</li>
<li>Safety Helmet to BS EN 397:1995</li>
<li>General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121</li>
<li>Safety Glasses to BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F</li>

<h3>Certification</h3>
<p>A Certificate of Competency will be awarded to the delegate on successful completion of both an underpinning knowledge and practical on-site assessment.</p>
