Course Aims
The course is intended to provide technical, managerial and supervisory staff with the skills and knowledge to obtain the required levels of track quality with the tamping resources by the skilful use of control systems and software available. This course is ideally suited to Permanent Way technical staff, managers and supervisors.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the course the delegates will be:
Clearly aware of the different makes of tamper
Able to understand the basic control systems of tampers
Able to mark the track for the required geometry, including slues and lifts
Able to use the control systems to move the track to the required design within the tolerances level down in the Track Construction Standards NR/L2/TRK/2102 and NR/SP/TRK/001
Able to create and check the data files for using ALC and GECO (Plasser and Matisa propriety control software)
Able to conduct post tamping analysis
Able to determine track quality by extracting Standard Deviations from the post tamp data
Able to use “DAR” inspector to analyse performance post tamp
Able to predict deterioration of track quality by looking at the data history for the site
Able to predict timely tamping cycles to avoid track quality non-compliance to the standards

Pre-requisites
There are no particular educational or competence pre-requisites for the course. However, the following factors will benefit the delegate.
Sound understanding of the Permanent Way and its components
Prior experience of site work
Personal Protective Equipment
P.P.E. is not required for this course
Certification
A Certificate of Training will be awarded to the delegate upon completion of the course.
