Course Aims
This course is intended to provide the delegate with an in-depth knowledge and skills required to plan, supervise and implement permanent way track renewals.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course the delegates will: -
Be aware of the need for site safety
Have a clear understanding of the method statement process
Have an understanding of the requirements of site planning
Be aware of the Railway Group Standards and Network Rail Company Standards and specifications relevant to track renewals
Have an understanding of the role of the Renewals Supervisory Manager
Have a clear understanding of the requirements for planning and organising resources, including labour, plant and materials
Have a clear understanding for the need of planning and implementation of possessions and isolation’s
Be able to estimate and order all relevant materials
Be able to prepare and employ bar charts
Have an understanding of the relevant “follow-up” work subsequent to track renewals
Have an in-depth knowledge of track construction, both plain line and S&C
Be aware of the interface between S&C and track signalling
Course Duration
Eight days, consisting of two modules of four days, Monday – Thursday
Pre-requisites
There are no particular educational or competence pre-requisites for the course. However, the following factors will benefit the delegate: -
Prior supervisory or technical experience in working on the renewal of the Permanent Way
Good numeric skills.
Personal Protective Equipment
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line and therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of:-
Valid P. T. S. Card
Protective “all orange” High Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471:2003
Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004
Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995
Safety Glasses to BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
Certification
The delegate will be required to complete an examination to demonstrate his/her underpinning knowledge of the requirements of track renewals.
