<p>This course is intended to provide a delegate with the necessary underpinning knowledge and skills to complete Basic Maintenance Work to the Permanent Way.</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>At the end of this course the delegates will: -</p>
<li>Have a clear understanding of Track Construction and its components</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate knowledge in the Maintenance of the following:-</li>
<p>- Formation and Drainage<br />
- Jointed Plain Line<br />
- Continuous Welded Rail<br />
- Switch and Crossing Work<br />
- Top and Line<br />
- Clearances</p>
<li>Be able to demonstrate the ability to correct Track Alignment Faults</li>
<li>Be aware of the precautions necessary when dealing with Extreme Weather</li>
<li>Demonstrate a clear understanding of Track Conditions and the Risk of Derailment</li>
<li>Demonstrate the ability to identify and correctly use Hand Tools in the Maintenance of Track and Formation, including jacks for the adjustments of top and line</li>
<li>Be aware of the requirements of off-track work</li>

<h3>Course Duration</h3>
<p>Five days</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Pre-requisites</h3>
<p>There are no educational or competence pre-requisites for the course. However, the following factors will be of significant benefit to the delegate: -</p>
<li>Completion of the Permanent Way Track Induction Course</li>
<li>Have a minimum knowledge of three months work experience within the Permanent Way environment</li>
<p class="body">
<h3>Personal Protective Equipment</h3>
<p>This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -</p>
<li>Valid P. T. S. Card</li>
<li>Protective &#8220;all orange&#8221; High Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471:2003</li>
<li>Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004</li>
<li>Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995</li>
<li>General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121</li>
<li>Safety Glasses to BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F</li>

<h3>Certification</h3>
<p>A Certificate of Training will be awarded to the delegate on completion of the course</p>
