<p>This course is intended to provide delegates with the knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues when operating machinery. They will have the ability to carry out safe working practices according to CPCS criteria and standards. A registered CPCS instructor will carry out all training and assessments with current ID AVAILABLE.</p>

<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>At the end of this course the delegates will: -</p>
<li>Have a basic knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act74.</li>
<li>Have an understanding of (PUWER 98)</li>
<li>Be able to comply with the manufacturers specifications.</li>
<li>Know the operator responsibilities with regard to maintenance duties.</li>
<li>Have an understanding of the relevant safe working practices.</li>
<li>Be able to carry out running checks.</li>
<li>Have knowledge and ability of travelling on Incline in a loaded and unloaded state. Be able to carry out hill starts in a loaded and unloaded position.</li>
<li>Be able to manoeuvre around obstacles in a forward and reverse position loaded and unloaded.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate handling the machine in confined areas; be able to tip into excavations according to the safe working practices.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate good working practices during loading procedures.</li>
<li>Carry out towing procedures safely and efficiently.</li>
<li>Be able to carry out parking and the shut down procedure safely.</li>

<h3>Course Duration</h3>
<li>Experienced operators require a <strong>1-day assessment refresher</strong> &#8211; maximum candidates 4</li>
<li>Novice operators require <strong>3 days training, including a 1-day theory session</strong>.</li>

<h3>Pre-Requisites</h3>
<li>Experienced workers must bring proof of certification.  With a letter from their employer confirming their experience.</li>
<p class="body">
<h3>Plant &amp; Machinery Requirements</h3>
<li>A serviceable Forward Tipping dumper with an operator manual.</li>
<li>A ramp for hill starts (25% incline) stop block acting as a machine barrier during tipping.</li>
<li>A machine for loading purposes.</li>
<li>Materials for loading.</li>
<li>Cones to observe manoeuvre in a forward and reveres direction.</li>
<li>Small plant for towing.</li>
<p class="body">
<h3>Personal Protective Equipment</h3>
<p>This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore he/she MUST be in possession of: -</p>
<li>Protective “all orange” High Visibility clothing to BS EN 471:2003</li>
<li>Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004</li>
<li>Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995</li>
<li>Ear Protection</li>
<li>Safety Glasses to BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F</li>
<li>Gloves</li>
<p>The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Certification</h3>
<p>A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of both an underpinning knowledge theory assessment and practical on-site assessment.</p>
