Course Aims
This course is intended to provide delegates with the knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues when operating machinery. They will have the ability to carry out safe working practices according to CPCS criteria and standards. A registered CPCS instructor will carry out all training and assessments with current ID AVAILABLE.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course the delegates will: -
Have a basic knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 74.
Have an understanding of (PUWER 98) and (HAUC) specifications
Be able to comply with the manufacturers specifications.
Know the operator responsibilities with regard to maintenance duties.
Have an understanding of the relevant safe working practices.
Be able to carry out running checks.
Have knowledge of travelling on Incline procedures.
Be able to manoeuvre around obstacles in a forward and reverse position.
Be able to demonstrate staggering the joints when compacting materials
Have the ability to compact a radius with no impact.
Be able to demonstrate good practices using the vibration control.
Be able to carry out parking and the shut down procedure safely.
Course Duration
Experienced operators require a 1 day assessment refresher.
Novice operators require 3 days training including a 1-day theory session.
Pre-Requisites
Experienced workers must bring proof of certification, with a letter from their employer confirming their experience.
Plant & Machinery Requirements
A serviceable ride on roller with an operator manual.
A Trailer to load and unload the roller.
A 15 metre straight edge with a 5 metre external radius with a cross fall.
Aggregates to demonstrate rolling patterns and markings.
Cones to observe manoeuvres in a forward and reverse direction.
Personal Protective Equipment
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore he/she MUST be in possession of: -
Protective “all orange” High Visibility clothing to BS EN 471:2003
Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004
Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995
Ear Protection
Safety Glasses to BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
Gloves
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.
Certification
A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of both an underpinning knowledge theory assessment and practical on-site assessment.
