Course Aims
This course is intended to provide delegates with the knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues when operating machinery. They will have the ability to carry out safe working practices according to CPCS criteria and standards.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course the delegates will: -
Have a basic knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 74
Have an understanding of (PUWER 98) and (LOLER 98)
Be able to comply with the manufacturers specifications
Know the operator responsibilities with regard to maintenance duties
Have an understanding of the safe working practices (HSG 17)
Be able to carry out running checks
Have a knowledge of Incline procedures, loaded and unloaded
Be able to stack and de-stack palletised loads
Be able to demonstrate undercutting techniques during loading procedures
Have the knowledge and understanding of when to de-rate a fork lift when adding attachments
Be safe when placing a load onto a loading tower
Be able to carry out the shut down procedure
Course Duration
Experienced operators need a 1 day refresher and assessment
Novice operators require 5 days training which includes a 1 day theory session
Pre-Requisites
Experienced workers must bring proof of certification
Personal Protective Equipment
This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore he/she MUST be in possession of: -
Protective “all orange” High Visibility clothing to BS EN 471:2003
Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004
Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995
Ear Protection
Safety Glasses to BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.
Certification
A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to the delegate upon successful completion of both an underpinning knowledge theory assessment and practical on-site assessment.
