<p>This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to successfully interpret the relevant parts of the Rule Book when required to operate level crossings by local control.</p>

<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>At the end of this course the delegates will: -</p>
<li>Understand the different types of level crossings and their operation.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the level crossing attendant (LXA) and the signaller.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the action taken by the LXA when arriving on site</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the LXA once local control has been taken</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the equipment that is required for local control</li>
<li>Be able to understand and use the phonetic alphabet</li>
<li>Be able to understand the requirements for level crossing operation during a T3 possession</li>
<li>Be able to understand the requirements for level crossing operation during Single Line Working</li>
<li>Be able to understand the requirements for level crossing operation when attending a failure of the crossing</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the LXA when handing back the crossing to the signaller for normal operation</li>

<h3>Course Duration</h3>
<p>One Day, inclusive of both theoretical and practical assessments.</p>

<h3>Pre-Requisites</h3>
<p>Delegates must be in possession of:</p>
<li>a valid Sentinel card endorsed for IWA/COSS</li>
<li>Current Rule Book, Module TW8</li>
<p class="body">
<h3>Personal Protective Equipment</h3>
<p>This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -</p>
<li>A Valid P.T.S. Card</li>
<li>Protective &#8220;all orange&#8221; High Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471:2003</li>
<li>Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004</li>
<li>Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995</li>
<li>General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121</li>
<p class="body">
<h3>Certification</h3>
<p>This competency is valid for two years.  A Network Rail Sentinel card, will be awarded to each successful candidate.</p>
