<p>This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to successfully interpret the relevant parts of the Network Rail Personal Track Safety Handbook when required to go on or the near line.</p>

<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>At the end of this course the delegates will: -</p>
<li>Have the ability to understand the railway environment and basic track terminology</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of all relevant safety procedures.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of all safe procedures, including personal safety when on or near the line</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the positions of safety</li>
<li>Be aware of the relevant personal safety equipment</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate the ability to make an emergency call</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate the ability to implement the emergency procedure resulting from an emergency affecting the safety of line and trains</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate the ability to understand and use the phonetic alphabet</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate to correctly acknowledge the warning given by train drivers and lookouts</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate the correct procedure for crossing the running line</li>
<li>Be able to identify the line parts of both ‘overhead line’ and DC electrified equipment</li>
<li>Have a clear understanding of minimum safe working distances from O. H. L. E.</li>
<li>Have a clear understanding of operations requiring special care when working adjacent to both O. H. L. E. and DC Electrified Line</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the correct procedure for crossing the live parts of the DC Electrified Line.</li>

<h3>Duration</h3>
<p>Two Days, including the assessment process.</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Pre-Requisites</h3>
<p>Delegates MUST be in possession of :</p>
<li>a valid Medical and Alcohol &amp; Drugs Certificates in accordance with Network Rail Company Standard.</li>
<li>Identification, either passport, driving licence, company I.D. etc.</li>
<h3>Personal Protective Equipment</h3>
<p>This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, he/she MUST be in possession of: -</p>
<li>Protective &#8220;all orange&#8221; high Visibility Clothing to BS EN 471:2003</li>
<li>Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345:2004</li>
<li>Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397:1995</li>
<li>General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388:2121</li>
<li>Safety Glasses to BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F</li>

<h3>Certification</h3>
<p>This competency is valid for two years.  A Network Rail Sentinel card, will be awarded to each successful candidate.</p>
