<p>This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to successfully interpret the relevant parts of the Rule Book Module T5, when required to operate power operated points by hand.</p>

<h3>Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>At the end of this course the delegates will: -</p>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the duties of the points operator and route setting agent.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of all the relevant safety procedures.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the definitions and types of failures within a possession.</li>
<li>Be able to understand the staffing arrangements for complex failures.</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the actions of the points operator and the route setting agent.</li>
<li>Be able to understand and use the phonetic alphabet.</li>
<li>Be able to understand the actions of the points operator regarding the site arrangements with the Signaller and Engineering Supervisor</li>
<li>Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the protection arrangements if trains need to be stopped in any adjacent lines.</li>
<li>Demonstrate the actions of the persons responsible for a simple failure.</li>
<li>Demonstrate the actions taken by the points operator.</li>
<li>Be able to understand the procedure for a complex failure.</li>
<li>Be able to understand the procedure when leaving points secured or unattended.</li>
<li>Demonstrate an understanding of returning the points to normal operation.</li>

<h3>Course Duration</h3>
<p>One Day, including the assessment process.</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Pre-Requisites</h3>
<p>Delegates must be in possession of a valid Sentinel card endorsed for IWA/COSS.</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Personal Protective Equipment</h3>
<p>This course is classroom based and therefore, no P.P.E. is required.</p>
<p class="body">
<h3>Certification</h3>
<p>This competency is valid for two years.  A Network Rail Sentinel card, will be awarded to each successful candidate.</p>
