Course Aims

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to carry out the duties of a PC when deemed suitable by their local line manager and to meet the relevant requirements of the Network Rail Company Standard GO/RT 3358.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will: -

  • Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of all the relevant safety procedures
  • Be able to demonstrate the communication skills required by a protection controller
  • Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles set out in module T II of the Rule book
  • Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding in the use of the Sectional Appendix, Network Rail hazard directory, Method Statement, RIMINI principles and RIMPLAN
  • Be able to demonstrate the completion of all the relevant documentation
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to implement the emergency procedure resulting from an emergency affecting the safety of line and trains
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to understand and use the phonetic alphabet
  • Course Duration

    One day, including the assessment process. The maximum number of delegates is eight.

    Pre-Requisites

    Delegates MUST be in possession of:

  • a valid Medical and Drug & Alcohol Certificates in accordance with Network Rail Company Standard
  • Rule Book GE/RT 8000 relevant modules
  • Personal Protective Equipment

    This course is classroom based and therefore no P.P.E is required.

    Certification

    This competency is valid for two years. A Network Rail Sentinel card, will be awarded to each successful candidate.

    Post course objectives and P C Log Book will be given to each delegate on completion of the course.
