Course Aims

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the understanding required to carry out the duties of a PC when deemed suitable by their local line manager and to meet the relevant requirements of the Network Rail Company Standard GO/RT 3358.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course the delegates will: -

Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of all the relevant safety procedures

Be able to demonstrate the communication skills required by a protection controller

Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles set out in module T II of the Rule book

Be able to demonstrate a clear understanding in the use of the Sectional Appendix, Network Rail hazard directory, Method Statement, RIMINI principles and RIMPLAN

Be able to demonstrate the completion of all the relevant documentation

Be able to demonstrate the ability to implement the emergency procedure resulting from an emergency affecting the safety of line and trains

Be able to demonstrate the ability to understand and use the phonetic alphabet

Course Duration

One day, including the assessment process. The maximum number of delegates is eight.

Pre-Requisites

Delegates MUST be in possession of:

a valid Medical and Drug & Alcohol Certificates in accordance with Network Rail Company Standard

Rule Book GE/RT 8000 relevant modules

Personal Protective Equipment

This course is classroom based and therefore no P.P.E is required.

Certification

This competency is valid for two years. A Network Rail Sentinel card, will be awarded to each successful candidate.

Post course objectives and P C Log Book will be given to each delegate on completion of the course.
