Learning Objectives

What is human trafficking and modern slavery?
This course is designed to provide a basic awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking.

Modern slavery targets and profits from the world's most vulnerable, poor, displaced, and desperate people. It is a serious and often hidden crime in which people are exploited for criminal gain. The impact can be devastating for the victims.

Modern slavery comprises slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking.

The course modules include:

  • What is meant by modern slavery and human trafficking
  • About traffickers and victims
  • How to identify and safeguard victims
  • Appropriate and applicable legislation and guidance
  • Details of the National Referral Mechanism.

In addition, the course aims to ensure clearer understanding about modern slavery; the requirements for reporting it when it is suspected, and also about the support for victims of trafficking. The course also covers the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) which is in place to collect data on human trafficking and organise provisions for supporting victims.
