Course Aims

This course provides the underpinning knowledge and practical experience on the safe and effective operation of the Hand Held Disc Cutters, Angle Grinders and Associated Abrasive Wheels.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

• Correctly and safely, select, check, mount and use the abrasive wheels suitable for Hand Held Disc Cutters and Angle Grinding purposes.
• Complete appropriate pre-use checks to ensure that the Hand Held Disc Cutter and Angle Grinder are in a safe and usable condition and suitable for task.
• Select and use personal protective equipment appropriate for cutting and grinding operation.
• Operate the Hand Held Disc Cutter and Angle Grinder correctly and safely in accordance with Network Rail and manufacturer's instructions.
• Check that others are protected while the Disc Cutter and Angle Grinder are being used.

Pre Requisite Requirements

The delegates must hold Personal Track Safety PTS prior to attending.

PPE Requirements

This course requires the delegate to be on or near the running line, therefore, they MUST be in possession of: -
• Valid P. T. S. Card
• Protective “all orange” High Visibility clothing to BS EN 471
• Safety Footwear to BS EN ISO 20345
• Safety Helmet (white/blue) to BS EN 397
• Ear Protection
• Safety Glasses BS EN 166 and of Optical Class 1 with Impact Resistance F
• General Purpose Gloves to BS EN388
• Overalls
The protective equipment must comply with current safety standards.
