Competence Assessor Training

Neway Training Solutions Limited is an approved EAL Centre offering Qualifications in Assessor skills.  

The requirement to ensure that your staff are competent, is driven by legislation, client requirements, and a company’s own Quality and Competence Management System. Developing and maintaining staff competence can be achieved with the foundation of good quality assessors and quality assurance managers who are aware of their responsibilities and continue to develop their assessor skills alongside their technical skills. 

Whatever your occupation, we can offer training and support to become a competent Assessor. 

Guidance and support can also be provided to qualified assessors and Quality Assurance Managers.

Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment Primary evidence for the learning outcomes and assessment criteria must come from the candidate assessor assessing at least two real learners on four occasions (in total) in a real work environment against standards/criteria that are approved by their own organisation. The units cover seven assessment methods in total. The candidate assessor must show that they have covered a minimum of three of these assessment methods in their real practice. For practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning and discussion, use of others (e.g. witnesses), learner statements and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Award in Assessing Vocational Related Achievement This unit assesses a candidate assessor’s competence in assessing a learner’s vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts other than a work environment, for example in a simulated environment, in a workshop or classroom. Primary evidence for the learning outcomes and assessment criteria must come from the candidate assessor assessing two real learners on two occasions against standards/criteria that are approved by the organisation. The unit covers seven assessment methods in total. The candidate assessor must show that they have covered a minimum of three of these assessment methods in their real practice. For practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a training environment using the following assessment methods: • assessments in simulated environments • skills tests • oral and written questions • assignments • projects • case studies • recognising prior learning
Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment A knowledge-only Award for those who are starting their journey as an assessor, or for those who need to know about assessment practice but who are not currently practicing e.g. a starting point for aspiring assessors or a professional development qualification for managers, HR or quality assurance personnel. Evidence for this unit could take the form of: • written statements or answers by the candidate assessor • oral statements or answers by the candidate assessor • discussions between the candidate assessor and their own assessor • assignments • projects
Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement These units assess a candidate assessor’s competence in assessing a learner’s vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a work environment and in a simulated environment, in a workshop or classroom. For practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in both a work and training environment using the following assessment methods: • observation, • examining work products, • use of others (e.g. witnesses), • learner statements • assessments in simulated environments • skills tests • oral and written questions • assignments • projects • case studies • recognising prior learning
